Woman member of dance group critical in jilted lover’s attack in Nabarangpur 

A youth allegedly attacked a woman with a sharp weapon on Tuesday in which she received critical injuries. The incident took place in the Umerkote area of Nabarangpur district. 

The accused has been identified as Rohit Singh, a resident of Bihar while the identity of the woman is yet to be ascertained. The victim is a dancer by profession and a resident of Puri district.

According to sources, the victim is part of a five-member dance group stationed in Umerkote to perform in a cultural programme. They were staying in a rental house. 

Rohit entered the rental house by scaling the boundary walls and attacked the victim with a sharp weapon. 

The woman was initially rushed to Umerkote Community Health Centre (CHC). Later, she was referred to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for further treatment. 

Umerkote police station IIC Dambrudhar Pradhan said a complaint was lodged regarding the incident. On the basis of the complaint, the police initiated a probe into the matter. 

After a preliminary investigation, the police stated that Rohit attacked the woman due to a disturbance in their relationship.
