Sanjukta Mahala, a woman leader of Ganjam who was recently arrested by police for storming into the house of former minister Srikanta Sahu, deposed before police at Kabisuryanagar police station on Sunday.
Speaking to the media after coming out from the police station, Sanjukta appealed to women voters not to support the BJD legislator Srikant Sahu in the upcoming elections.
“It is the struggle of a weak, tortured and humiliated woman. A powerful former minister brought me to the street. I appeal to women and girls of Buguda, Polasara and Kabisuryanagar areas not to vote for a ‘depraved, immoral and tyrant’ leader in the upcoming elections,” she lamented.
She also stated with a note of caution, “If women vote for such a leader, you will have to suffer like me thereafter.”
Notably, Sanjukta had allegedly forced her entry into the house of the legislator and attacked the latter’s father. Following a complaint from the legislator’s father, Sanjukta was arrested and later released on conditional bail. As per the condition, the woman had been asked to depose before the police every week.

Sanjukta Mahala had earlier filed a police complaint at Mahila police station in Bhubaneswar, accusing the Polasara legislator of torturing her physically and mentally while staying in a relationship with him for nine years.
However, she was unhappy with the police investigation and later moved the Orissa High Court which admitted her case. The High Court had directed the IIC concerned and the Commissioner of Police, seeking to know as to why the case was not taken as a cognizable offense.
