Woman, her newborn die after delivery at Berhampur’s MKCG hospital; family alleges medical negligence

A tragic incident unfolded late Friday night at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where a 27-year-old woman and her newborn son died hours after delivery due to alleged medical negligence

The deceased, Tuni Reddy of Dankalpadu village, was admitted to the labor room of MKCG’s Obstetrics and Gynecology department around 9 PM after she was shifted from a private hospital due to some complications.

She gave birth to a baby boy. However, both mother and child were declared dead by hospital authorities around midnight, sources said.

The bereaved family staged a protest inside the hospital, alleging negligence in treatment. Tensions flared up as relatives raised slogans and demanded action.

Following the uproar, police from the MKCG Medical Outpost and Baidyanathpur Police Station reached the spot to pacify the situation. After assurances of a proper investigation and a possible official complaint, the family members agreed to leave the premises.

Tuni had reportedly complained of labor pain on Friday and was first admitted to a nearby private hospital. Later, she was referred to MKCG for further treatment, where the fatal incident occurred. The exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
