A woman was found dead at her in-laws’ house in Samantarapur, Bhubaneswar on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Jhili Sethi from Sundarpada in Bhubaneswar.

She was brought to the nearest hospital by her in-laws, where the doctors announced her received dead.

Her family members at Sundarpada have alleged murder owing to dowry demand by her in-laws.

According to the allegations, Jhili was repeatedly tortured by her in-laws including her husband since her marriage to Chandan Sethi three years back. Her in-laws were allegedly demanding gold jewellery and money for car as dowry.

Later when she died under mysterious circumstances on Saturday night, her family members alleged murder.

“They have killed my daughter by beating her mercilessly. They demanded dowry including gold jewellery and money for car from us. We had gone to their house last night to see her body, but they did not allow us inside. I want justice,” said Ranjukta Sethi, the mother of the deceased.

“Her husband has killed her by strangulating her with her blouse. Her in-laws including her husband were demanding dowry. They demanded gold chain and money for car. We were not even allowed to see her body. The police are assuring us to see to the matter, but no arrests have been made till now,” alleged Kalandi sethi, brother of Jhili.

Following the death, Lingaraj police have launched a probe and detained Chandan Sethi for questioning in this connection.

No comments could be received from the police or from Jhili’s in-laws in this matter.
