With grit and unity, Cuttack villagers use their own funds to create city-like park for children
Driven by a strong desire to create a better environment for village children, a group of enthusiastic youth from Gunupur village under Mahanga block in Cuttack district has built a beautiful park, entirely through their own efforts and personal funds.
With no support from local leaders, officials, or government schemes, the youth decided to take matters into their own hands. After their multiple appeals for assistance went unanswered, they held a community meeting and resolved to build the park themselves, no matter the cost.
Pooling in over Rs 6 lakh, the young men developed a well-equipped and attractive park in the heart of their village. The facility includes swings, slides, and other play equipment, along with flowering plants, concrete benches, and neatly arranged walkways, offering the village children a space similar to city parks.
Elated after the park’s inauguration, young student Pritilipsa Sahoo said, “Our villagers built this park for us. We are so happy playing here.”
Echoing same joy, Rabindra Nath Kar, a senior resident of Gunupur said, “If one elder stays around, the children can play safely without any worry. I’m truly delighted by what our youth have achieved.”
The park was formally inaugurated by an elderly member of the community in a simple ceremony, bringing joy to the children and pride to the villagers.
This self-initiated project stands as a shining example of what determination, teamwork, and community spirit can achieve. The efforts of Gunupur’s youth have drawn widespread appreciation from residents, who now see the park as a symbol of collective will and positive change.
