Over a dozen hospitals and clinics in Odisha are providing cancer treatment to patients while a couple are in the pipeline. They are catering to the healthcare of cancer patients, whose numbers are reportedly rising.
Cancer care concentration in Bhubaneswar
One of the leading cancer hospitals run by the Odisha government is the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Institute in Cuttack, which is fully dedicated to cancer detection, treatment and radio therapy. The rest of the cancer hospitals and clinics are run privately. The Bagchi-Sri Shankara Cancer Centre and Research Institute at Info-valley-II in Bhubaneswar is the newest addition. The hospital was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday and will function from June 20.
Most of the cancer hospitals are concentrated in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. People from 30 districts depend on these private and the single government hospital for their cancer treatment.

Upcoming hospitals
Mumbai-based Tata Memorial Centre, a grant-in-aid institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, will establish a 200-bedded hospital at Jatani. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai and the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department for the establishment of a State-of-the-art cancer hospital on the campus of the National Institute of Science Education and Research at Jatani.
Secondly, Odisha government is setting up a 100-bed dedicated cancer hospital on the premises of the Bargarh district headquarters hospital. Its works are underway and will be equipped with radiotherapy, dosimetry, brachytherapy, 40 beds in IPD, 20 in day-care chemotherapy, and 6 beds each in ICU, HDU, and 12 pre /post-surgery beds.
As most of these hospitals are located mainly in and around Bhubaneswar, people from far-off areas in western, northern, central and coastal Odisha are certainly facing difficulties in accessing cancer care.
