The body of a Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) student was recovered from under the PC Bridge in Sambalpur on Tuesday, sparking shock and grief among students and locals.

The body of a Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) student was recovered from under the PC Bridge in Sambalpur on Tuesday, sparking shock and grief among students and locals.

The deceased has been identified as Anjaneya Dash, a final-year Mechanical Engineering student at VSSUT. 

According to sources, Dash, bearing multiple injuries, was found lying under the bridge. He was rushed to Burla Hospital by police, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A native of Jajpur district, Dash was residing at the university’s Pulastya Hostel. His family members have been informed and are on their way to the campus, sources added.

While the exact cause of his death remains unclear, an investigation has been launched. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy.

Authorities said they are probing all possible angles, including whether it was an accident or if foul play was involved.

It is worthwhile to mention here that two final-year MBBS students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla drowned while bathing at Deojharan waterfall in Jujumura area of Sambalpur district on Saturday afternoon. The deceased were Monica Meena from Rajasthan and Sandeep Puri from Delhi.
