Visual of police vehicle being set on fire
The Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar filed three separate cases against Congress party members in Odisha on Friday after disruptions were reported during their protests in the Capital City on March 27 (Thursday).
An altercation had occurred near Gate 3 of the Odisha State Legislative Assembly, where police officers faced attacks characterised by the use of chairs as weapons. Additionally, there have been allegations of attempts to set a police vehicle ablaze.
In response to these events, senior law enforcement officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP), Y.B Khurania, visited the injured officers at Capital Hospital in Unit-6 locality. Following this, urgent instructions were issued for a comprehensive investigation to be conducted regarding the incidents.
In a presser yesterday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bhubaneswar, Jagmohan Meena, confirmed that the situation at Lower PMG was brought under control following disturbances that resulted in injuries to 12 police officers.
“An investigation is currently underway, with police reviewing the CCTV footage from the protest site to ascertain further details. “After the investigation, appropriate actions will be taken,” reiterated DCP Jagmohan Meena in the presser held in Bhubaneswar.
“A vehicle was intercepted by the agitators on its way and the vehicle driver managed to get rid of the awkward situation. However, partial damage was caused to the vehicle in the incident and we will probe into it,” DCP Meena stated in the presser.
“We will gather information from our officers who were present on the ground (on the spot). Discussions will be held with those officials deployed at de-barricaded spots. We will also gather information from eyewitnesses and verify CCTV footage. Based on these, actions will be taken against the wrongdoers,” the senior cop expressed.
