The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested Santanu Kumar Mallik, Block Education Officer (BEO) of Hindol in Dhenkanal district, while he was accepting Rs 10,000 bribe from a teacher.

According to sources, Mallik was apprehended by the officials of the anti-corruption agency while accepting an undue advantage from an assistant teacher for releasing of pay allowance and DA arrears, which were held up due to suspension.

The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from his possession, sources in the Vigilance informed. 

Following the trap, the Vigilance launched simultaneous raids at three places including the residential house of Mallik at Kuansa in Bhadrak.

Till the last report came in, the search is on at Mallik’s rented house at Khajuriakata Bajar and his office.

The sleuths so far has recovered Rs 11.10 lakh has been his Bhadrak residence while Rs 82000 recovered from the Hindol residence.

Further investigation into the matter is on.
