Has Bhubaneswar turned into a safe heaven for criminals? The concerns were raised after a fresh attack on a security guard of an automobile showroom at Mangaraj point along Puri bypass road late Tuesday night.

The miscreants attacked the security guard following a suspected unsuccessful loot bid on the showroom.

The injured security guard has been admitted to the hospital where he is currently under treatment.

As per reports, three miscreants arrived at the showroom in the dead of Tuesday night and asked the security guard for water. However, the trio soon tried to gain entry into the showroom in a bid to burgle it.

However, the security guard tried to stop them and resisted their loot bid. Failing to loot the showroom, the miscreants attacked the security guard with a sharp weapon and fled the spot.

Speaking about the incident, a showroom staffer said, “We received the news about the attack at around 2 am last night. The police were informed and they shifted the injured security guard to the hospital.”

Following the attack, Laxmisagar police have launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate police have recently launched a drive to keep the twin cities safe during the Durga Puja celebrations. However, the miscreants seemed to have thrown a challenge to the police by committing robberies and attacks in the Capital city.

On Tuesday, thefts were reported from at least four flats at Rajvatika Apartment under the Infocity Police limits in Bhubaneswar.

Despite the presence of a security guard, the robbers managed to enter the apartment and decamp with gold ornaments, cash, and other valuables from at least four flats.

Sources said that the miscreants have looted the valuables after gaining entry by breaking the grille and locks of the concerned flats. It is said that the robbers have decamped with gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 1 crore.
