In a shocking incident, two minor girls were allegedly gang raped by four youths under Golanthara police station area in Ganjam district.
According to sources, the family members of the victims have lodged a police complaint over the matter, and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.
The two minor girls had reportedly gone to attend a marriage function on June 3 but went missing shortly thereafter. As their families grew anxious, they launched an extensive search across the area. Subsequent inquiries revealed that two youths present at the same event had allegedly taken the girls away from the venue.
Further information suggests that two friends of these youths intercepted the girls midway, took them to an undisclosed location, and held them captive. Following this, they allegedly sexually assaulted the two girls and abandoned them in a secluded area, sources informed.
Upon receiving information about the girls’ whereabouts, their families rushed to the location and brought them home. Subsequently, the families held discussions with the villagers and filed a police complaint against the four youths on the evening of June 4.
Following the complaint, the two girls are scheduled to undergo medical examinations on Friday.
The police and the Ganjam Superintendent of Police have assured strict action against the accused. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the four individuals, and once taken into custody, their statements will be recorded.
