Tension at Berhampur Railway Station
A scuffle between a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and a young passenger at Berhampur Railway Station has triggered widespread attention after a video of the incident surfaced online. The altercation, which occurred on Platform No. 1, is being linked to a dispute over an unpaid balance of Rs 15, as per preliminary reports.
Sources said the incident began when the passenger, after disembarking from a train at Berhampur station, was stopped by a TTE for a routine ticket inspection. The youth was reportedly found with discrepancies in his travel documents, for which he was fined Rs 215.
According to reports, the youth paid Rs 200 via UPI and told the TTE he would pay the remaining Rs 15 later in cash, citing insufficient balance in his digital wallet at the time. When the TTE returned to collect the pending amount, the youth allegedly responded with verbal abuse, leading to a heated exchange.
The argument quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Bystanders captured footage showing the TTE grabbing the youth by the shirt collar and dragging him from the station exit back onto the platform. The duo was seen engaging in a shoving match in full view of other passengers.
The video clip, which has since gone viral on social media and messaging platforms, has raised questions about the conduct of both parties.
As of the latest reports, no complaints have been registered with the Railway Police. Both the TTE and the youth reportedly left the premises following the incident. Officials said they are aware of the video and are monitoring the situation, but no formal inquiry has been announced yet.
Sources said that it remains unclear whether the argument was solely over Rs 15 or if other underlying issues contributed to the escalation. Efforts to obtain the youth’s version of events were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
The East Coast Railway has not yet released an official statement on the matter.
