Trouble mounted again for actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty after the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Cuttack quashed the discharge petition filed by him in connection with a domestic violence charge brought by his ex-wife Varsha Priyadarshini.

The JMFC court also ordered the framing of charges against the politician on May 10.

As per reports, his former wife Varsha Priyadarshini filed a complaint at Purighat Police Station on December 19, 2020, alleging that the actor and his two friends –Sujit Dalei and Khageswar Prasad Sahu --locked her up in a room in his house at Cuttack’s Nandi Sahi and tortured her mentally and physically.

Police had registered a case based on Varsha’s complaint and submitted a chargesheet against the actor.

Mohanty dismissed the allegations against him as false and filed the discharge petition.

Government counsel Afroz Ahmed said, “Varsha had filed a complaint against Anubhav and his two aides – Sujit Dalei and Khagendra Sahu. The three had filed a discharge petition in this connection, with pleas that they had been falsely implicated and the case be discharged.”

He added that police had submitted a chargesheet with sufficient evidence. The court took cognizance of it and ordered the framing of charges.
