Trawler damaged in Paradip harbour mishap

A trawler named 'Abhiram' met with an accident inside Paradip fishing harbour and sustained severe damage on Saturday, causing water to enter the vessel.

Upon receiving information, the Kujang Fire Services team rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations. Meanwhile, the Trawler Owners’ Association also made efforts to save the vessel.

As per reports. The accident occurred near jetty No. 4 when the trawler collided with a barge that had already sunk in the water. The mishap took place while the trawler was preparing to head out to sea for fishing.

Earlier in June this year, a fishing trawler sank while returning from a Hilsa fishing trip from Namkhana ferry ghat in West Bengal. However, all 16 fishermen onboard were safely rescued.

In 2017, at least three fishermen went missing after their fishing trawler capsized in the Mahanadi river mouth in Paradip coast.

The incident took place close to the Nehru Bungalow when the small trawler carrying five fishermen was returning to the coast after fishing in the deep sea.
