Tigress from Maharashtra released into enclosure in core area of Similipal
Tigress ‘Yamuna’ brought from Maharashtra made her first hunt on Thursday after she was safely released into an enclosure in the core area of Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Mayurbhanj district.
As per reports, the tigress preyed on a wild boar to satisfy her hunger.
According to the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) Field Director Prakash Chand Gogineni, a deer and a wild boar were released into the enclosure and the tigress preyed on the wild boar.
After satisfying her hunger, the tigress also drank water. As per the Forest Department sources, Tigress Yamuna is fully healthy and calm now.
“Tigress ‘Yamuna’ has preyed on a wild boar for her food. She is active, calm and healthy,” said Gogineni.
Vigil is being kept on the movement of the tigress by installing CCTV cameras inside the enclosure.
The two-and-a-half-year-old tigress was brought from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Maharashtra on October 28. It was released into a soft enclosure of around two hectares in the core area of the Tiger Reserve on the following day.
The translocation of the tigress was done with the permission of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
