According to sources in the East Coast Railway (ECoR), the empty freight train was en route to the Paradip when three of its wagons derailed on Route No.8 (loop line) at Cuttack Yard near the Cuttack station limits. It is suspected that the incident occurred while changing its track. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported from the site.

The derailment took place within the yard section, thereby not affecting passenger train movements significantly. However, authorities have taken up restoration work on a war footing to clear the affected tracks and assess any possible damage to the rail infrastructure.

The mainline between Cuttack-Bhadrak-Visakhapatnam is clear and operational. The route towards Paradip is also unaffected, railway officials said.

The East Coast Railway has assured that all necessary safety checks are being undertaken and that train services on other lines remain unaffected.
