The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police arrested three conmen on Monday who posed as policemen and looted people in Cuttack. 

As per reports, masquerading as policemen, the three had looted jewellery and cash over Rs 3 lakh at two places under Badambadi Police limits. They belong to the infamous 'Irani gang.' Two of them hail from Maharashtra and the other is from Madhya Pradesh.

According to police, as many as 14 cases are pending against them at different police stations in Odisha. Besides they have links with some cases in other states. 

Further investigation into the matter is underway. 

Police have also seized cell phones from them and sent them to a forensic lab for data mining.

Addressing a presser, Cuttack ACP (Zone-4) Swastik Panda said, "We arrested the three. Their modus operandi was to pose as policemen and win the trust of people. They used to threaten people/jewellers with police action. They have also looted cash.”

He added that their criminal activities can be traced to two other states. “A team will go to these states to find their involvement. Further investigation is going on,” the ACP added.
