Thieves in Odisha loot Rs 3 lakh from medical shop, splurge it on PUBG

Balasore police cracked a medical shop theft where culprits used stolen Rs 3,05,083 for PUBG. Two arrested with cash and phones.

Balasore police on Thursday uncovered a unique case where the perpetrators used money stolen from a local medical shop to fund their online gaming activities, specifically through PUBG. 

The incident came to light after a substantial theft from a medical store owned by Siddhartha Sarathi Das in Nialibag area under Sahadevkhunta police on December 18. The thieves reportedly accessed the premises by breaking through the skylight to abscond with a significant sum of Rs 3,05,083.

Based on the complaint of the shop owner, the police launched a probe. During the investigation, they apprehended two individuals linked to the crime. Upon their arrest, law enforcement officials recovered several items, including Rs 2,63,700 in cash, four mobile phones, a motorcycle, and other materials.

During questioning, the accused admitted to having spent approximately Rs30,000 of the stolen money on online gaming and indulging in other activities. 

Informing to media persons, Balasore SP Raj Prasad said, “The accused had deposited Rs 2,58,000 in a Canara bank account, lent Rs 5000 to someone, and lost Rs 30,000 to the online game PUBG. In this case, we have so far recovered Rs 2,63,760, a foreign currency note, four mobile phones, a motorcycle, and other incriminating articles.” 

It was learned that further investigations are ongoing to determine their full extent of activities and accomplices.
