In a major breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police busted an inter-state gang reportedly involved in a series of thefts in apartments in Bhubaneswar. A special squad of police arrested nine members of a gang on Thursday.

Police also seized four bikes and a huge cache of gold and silver ornaments from the accused.

As per reports, police seized nearly 1kg of gold and silver ornaments and cash of Rs 3.20 lakh from them. Police said the accused are involved in several loot cases at different places in Bhubaneswar. After loot, the accused used to flee to Chhattisgarh or Mumbai where they enjoyed a lavish life by spending the booties.   

Speaking to the media, Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said, “As many as 9 members of the gang have so far been arrested. The mastermind of the gang has been identified as Dada Girish Illiyash Naik, who is involved in two murder cases. After interrogation, it was revealed that they have committed four burglaries in the Mancheswar area and six similar cases in other parts of Bhubaneswar.”

He further added that one of the accused has been identified as veteran criminal Bulu Patra, who has over 40 criminal cases pending against him in Ganjam. Bulu looted over 8 kg of gold ornaments from a jewellery shop in 2015, Panda added.
