Tension erupts over district-level appointment of junior teachers in Nabarangpur
Tension erupted in Nabarangpur over the appointment of junior teachers on Saturday. As per reports, members of several organisations warned aspirants from other districts except the candidates of the undivided Koraput district while the contract process for the appointment of junior teachers was going on.
They staged demonstrations and allegedly drove away the junior teacher aspirants from other districts from the place and even tore their certificates.
Following the development, tension prevailed near Mission Hall of Nabarangpur and the agreement process has been stopped. The district administration even called the police to maintain law and order at the place.
Notably, as many as 860 candidates have secured jobs as junior teachers in Nabarangpur district. While the agreement process with 478 candidates was conducted on Friday, the same process for 382 more candidates was to be continued on Saturday. However, the process was stopped today due to the prevailing tension.
“I have come from Bhubaneswar. However, they are not allowing us entry to get the agreement. If they had to protest like this, they would have told us about it much earlier. We have come from a long way, but unfortunately were treated like this,” rued Rakhi Roy, a job aspirant from Bhubaneswar.
“As the appointment has not been done district-wise, we strongly protest it,” said Arjuna Bhatara, President of South Odisha Tribal Federation.
“The protestors had submitted a memorandum demanding district-level appointment. Sub-Collector received the memorandum and it has been sent for government consideration. We are discharging our duty as per the guidelines of the government,” said Nabarangpur DEO Chhatrapati Sahu.
