Sweets trader receives Rs 5L extortion threat in Bhubaneswar

In Bhubaneswar's Chandi bazar, a sweets trader faced threats from Raghunath Barik demanding Rs 5 lakh. After the trader refused, stones were dumped outside his shop. Barik, recently released from jail and linked to Amaresh Nayak's murder, was detained by Commissionerate Police after CCTV footage examination.

Sweets trader receives Rs 5L extortion threat in Bhubaneswar

A sweets trader in Bhubaneswar was threatened by a youth who demanded to pay an extortion of Rs 5 lakh. Moreover, the accused dumped stones in front of the sweets shop at Chandi bazar area under Airfield police limits after its owner refused to pay the extortion.

As per initial reports, the accused identified as Raghunath Barik had recently been released from jail and tried to extort money from the trader. He also threatened the trader to close down his shop. The entire incident has been captured in the CCTV camera.

Sources said Barik was earlier arrested in connection with the murder of one Amaresh Nayak some years back.

Based on the fresh extortion bid allegations, Barik was subsequently detained by the Commissionerate Police after carrying out an investigation. The cops also examined the CCTV camera footage.
