Solving the case of a brutal attack on a woman at Baramunda in Bhubaneswar, police on Tuesday revealed that suspicion and rage were the causes behind the incident.

The victim, Madhusmita was allegedly attacked inside her office at Krutibandhu Apartment near Baramunda bus terminal in Bhubaneswar by her husband on Monday.

The incident took place at around 1 pm when the accused, identified as Sapan Kumar Kar came to her office and attacked the woman with a sharp weapon.

Later, when Kar was trying to flee from the office, the office staff overpowered him and informed the police who detained him for questioning.

The critically injured woman was rescued and immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where she is currently under treatment.

Speaking about the case, Bhubaneswar Zone 3 ACP, Pradeep Rout said, “They both (couple) belonged to Soro in Balasore. Madhusmita has been staying with her father after a domestic dispute with her husband. The husband had other suspicions too. Kar was enraged after Madhusmita denied going to the last rites of a relative with him.”

“He (Kar) reached the apartment where her office is situated and called her. When she came down to meet him, Kar attacked her with a knife in a fit of rage,” Rout said.
