The Odisha government on Thursday preponed summer vacation for all government, private, and aided schools for all classes up to standard 12. The summer vacation in Odisha schools will begin tomorrow i.e. April 21.

The schools will remain closed until June 16 and will reopen on June 17, informed School & Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash.

Originally, the summer vacation was supposed to be on the first week of May, but the government preponed the summer vacation in view of the prevailing heatwave condition in Odisha.

“We have announced the summer holidays from tomorrow. Schools were actually scheduled to be closed for summer vacation from May 4. However, in view of the intense heat and on the orders of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, we officially announce summer holidays from tomorrow,” said Dash.

He further stated, “The schools will remain closed till June 16 and reopen on June 17. However, if something crops up, a decision will be taken based on the situation.”

“We have organised a PTA (Parents-Teachers Association) meet tomorrow. However, we have asked the guardians not to bring the students along with them due to the heat. We are trying to meet between 7am-10am,” he added.

Notably, a total of 30 places in the state experienced a maximum temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius yesterday.
