As many as twelve students of a government primary school were hospitalised after they fell sick following their midday meal at Dimirisena in Brahmagiri block of Puri district on Thursday.

As per sources, the students of Dimirisena Government Primary School had their midday meals on Thursday. Later 12 students complained of uneasiness and fell sick.

The school authorities are now probing to find out what led to such a situation.

“During interaction with the students, they said they hadn’t drunk water after the food and were playing ‘chaka chaka bhaunri’. While playing the game, two students might have felt their head reeling and they vomited what they had eaten. It may be due to gas formation. However, they have been admitted to hospital,” said cluster resource centre coordinator (CRCC), Brahmagiri, Sukadev Sahu.

This occurrence has raised concerns about the safety and hygiene standards in food provided in government schools, which aim to improve nutrition among children.

Earlier today, several female students of a private nursing school in Bhubaneswar’s Sisupalgarh area were rushed to BMC Hospital after they allegedly fell sick following consumption of food served in their hostel the previous night. Sources said, ten of them were in serious condition.
