10 nursing students fall ill after consuming food in Bhubaneswar hostel

Several female students from a Bhubaneswar nursing school were hospitalised after consuming food. They suffered from diarrhoea, vomiting, and stomach ache.

Several female students of a private nursing school in Bhubaneswar were rushed to a hospital on Thursday after allegedly consuming food served in their hostel in the capital city.

The alarming case of possible food contamination surfaced when the affected students were reportedly admitted to the BMC Hospital for treatment at about 9 am. Additionally, sources mentioned that about ten of the students were in a serious condition.

Reports indicated that all of them belonged to a private nursing college in the Sisupalgarh area of Bhubaneswar and resided in a hostel.

The students reportedly became unwell after dinner on Wednesday night and complained of complications this morning. Since their health condition deteriorated, they were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Reports added that in total 12 students were brought to the hospital and all of them complained of diarrhea, vomiting, and intense stomach ache. Of them, 10 students were found in a serious condition and were immediately taken into wards and administered IV salines.

Meanwhile, the other two students were provided with oral tablets and kept under further observation.

“The students told us that since there was an issue with the food provided at their hostel, they ordered their dinner from some other place. After consumption, they experienced diarrhea and vomiting which turned into severe stomach ache,” claimed doctor Manoranjan Rout of BMC Hospital.

No comments from the concerned authorities could be obtained over the allegations.
