In a bizarre incident, a woman gave birth to a baby girl with no head and hands at Thakurmunda Community Health Centre (CHC) in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday. The infant was stillborn.

According to a source, Sadugama, wife of Rout Mudaya of Baniajodi village of Panasadiha panchayat under Anandapur block in Keonjhar district, complained of labour pain on Saturday afternoon. While she was being shifted to Thakurmunda CHC in a 108 ambulance, she gave birth to a baby girl in the ambulance itself. Then the mother and baby were admitted to the hospital. Later on the day, she gave birth to another baby girl. But it was a stillborn one with no head and hands.

While the first-born baby weighs 2.060 kgs, the stillborn baby weighed 2.410 kgs. The former is learnt to be doing well.

As the news broke, people crowded the hospital to have a look at the dead baby.

“The baby she gave birth to on the way to hospital is a healthy one. But the second baby is a stillborn baby. It is called congenital anomalies or birth defect. Due to the lack of folic acid in mothers, such a disorder arises. They didn’t know about the condition of foetuses because they hadn’t done an ultrasound test,” said the doctor treating Sadugama at Thakurmunda CHC.

Notably, the couple had already two daughters and one son.
