Sneak peek into three trains set to originate from Bhubaneswar New Railway Station

Three trains will now originate from Bhubaneswar New Railway Station to decongest Bhubaneswar. ECoR announced changes for the Konark Express, Visakha Express, and Intercity Express.

Sneak peek into three trains set to originate from Bhubaneswar New Railway Station

In a notice, issued on Friday, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) stated that three trains currently originating from Bhubaneswar Railway Station (BBS) will be extended and start operating from the Bhubaneswar New Railway Station (BBSN) situated in the city’s north in Raghunathpur, near Nandankanan Zoological Park.

Thrown open to the public in 2018, the Bhubaneswar New Railway Station is a satellite station of Bhubaneswar and aims to decongest the city’s railways while also providing relief and better travel amenities to passengers hailing from the city’s north.

Amid the announcement, here is a sneak peek into the three trains that ECoR stated will now be extended up to BBSN, their current timings, and expected changes.

1. Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express: 

Designated as Train No. 11020, the Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express currently runs from Bhubaneswar to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai.

The train operates daily and covers a distance of 1931 km every trip. As of the latest update on IRCTC, the train leaves Bhubaneswar at 3:20 pm and arrives at its destination at 4:125 am, including two nights and a total average duration of 37 hours. Onboard facilities include a pantry car, general, sleeper, 3AC, and 2AC bogies.

Following its extension, it would travel an additional 17 km on each trip, adding about ten to fifteen minutes to its travel time.

2. Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad Visakha Express:

Train 17015 Visakha Express currently runs daily from Bhubaneswar to Secunderabad Junction (SC) covering 1135 km in nearly 23 hours. It currently departs from Bhubaneswar railway station at 8:40 am and reaches Secunderabad at 7:30 am on the following day.

The Viskha Express has an average of 23 bogies including general, sleeper, 3AC, 2AC, and 1AC compartments. However, it has no pantry car facilities. With the extension to BBSN, its journey will increase by 17 km per trip, resulting in an added travel time of approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

3. Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam Intercity Express:

Running as Train No. 22819, the Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam Intercity Express runs between Bhubaneswar Railway Station (BBS) to Visakhapatnam Junction (VSKP) covering 444km in nearly 7 hours and 45 minutes.

The train has 11 compartments including General, Chair CC, and AC Chair Car bogies and does not have an onboard pantry car. Once again, the journey time will increase by 10 to 15 minutes and travel distance by 17 km following its extension to BBSN.

Notably, all of these trains will also halt at Mancheswar Station, further easing passenger’s convenience and decongesting the main station at Bhubaneswar, which is currently undergoing redevelopment.

As of the last reports, ECoR has yet to announce a formal date starting when the above three trains will originate at Bhubaneswar New Railway Station (BBSN).
