Bolangir Police on Friday recovered the skeletal remains of an unknown person from Mahanilaha jungle under Tureikela police limits.

Prima facie, the skeleton is said to be of a male aged between 40 to 45 years.

As per reports, the locals of Mahanilaha village found the skeleton in the jungle and called the police.

Following the call, the police reached the spot and recovered the skeleton from the jungle. A scientific team was called to the spot to investigate the skeleton. A probe has been ordered in this connection, informed sources.

“I saw a skeleton lying in the jungle and informed the police soon after. Though the skeleton looks like a male, the police could unearth the mystery if a thorough probe is conducted,” said Lochan Gartia, a cow herder who spotted the skeleton first.

“It does not seem to be anyone from our locality,” he said.

Speaking on the incident, Kantabanjhi SDPO, Laxmi Narayan Marndi said, “We have sent the skeleton for post-mortem and have not received the report yet. But as per the preliminary investigation, it can be safely said that the skeleton is of a male aged between 40-45 years.”

This is not the first time a skeleton has been found in the area. Mahanilaha jungle saw the recovery of skeletons in 2021 and 2022 too. While a labourer’s skeleton was recovered from the jungle in 2021, the body of a woman named Tanu Kure was found in 2022.
