In separate tragic road accidents, as many as five persons died and four others were critically injured in Sambalpur and Burla on Thursday.

As per reports, these accidents took place in the evening. A student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) and another youth died after their bike and a scooter had a collision in front of the university. Two others were critically injured in the accident.

The deceased were identified as Ashirbad Tripathy, a PhD student of VSSUT and Arakhita Sethi, a local youth. The injured were admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute Of Medical Science And Research (VIMSAR), Burla.

In another accident, three persons were killed and two others critically injured after a bike and a scooter had a collision on Chaurpur bridge across the Mahanadi.

The deceased were identified as Mohammed Sayeed, Krishna Agrawal and Sourya Agrawal. The condition of the two injured was stated to be critical, said IIC of Burla Town police station, Bulu Swain.

The bikes have been seized.
