Selfie turns tragic! Two minor boys go missing in Jalaput water reservoir in Odisha

Two minor boys, Siba Hantal and Amit Hantal, went missing after a boat capsized while taking a selfie at Jalaput water reservoir in Koraput district. Despite striving for hours together, the minors could not be traced. A search operation halted today is to restart on Monday morning.

A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday at Jalaput water reservoir under Machhkund Police limits in Koraput district when a boat carrying three minor boys capsized as they attempted to take a selfie. The event occurred in the afternoon, and while one boy managed to swim back to the riverbank safely, two others went missing and have not been traced yet.

The missing boys, identified as Siba Hantal and Amit Hantal, are students of Jalaput High School. They had reportedly bathed at the dam before deciding to capture a selfie on the boat, which then overturned suddenly.

Frantic search operation was quickly initiated; however, as darkness fell, efforts had to be temporarily suspended. The search is set to resume in daylight tomorrow as the authorities remain committed to finding the missing boys.

“Despite striving for hours together, the minors could not be traced. The search operation was halted after the fall of night. However, we will restart the search on Sunday morning,” a member of the search team expressed.”
