Scrap godowns under scanner after stolen bike racket busted in Bhubaneswar
Suspicions are mounting around several scrap godowns, which have now come under the scanner of the Commissionerate Police following the arrest of a bike theft gang. The gang was nabbed in a joint operation by Tamando Police, Capital Police Station, and the Special Squad.
As per sources, stolen bikes are being dismantled in the scrap godowns and illegally sold. Nearly 20 vehicles are reportedly stolen on a daily basis from various police station areas in Bhubaneswar.
With the help of the Special Squad, Tamando Police seized a total of 11 motorcycles, including six expensive Bullets, on Saturday. As many as two looters and three buyers were arrested in this connection. The Special Squad managed to nab a gang that was involved in the illegal transportation of stolen bikes.
As per sources, the scrap godowns have now become a major concern for the police. These illegal scrap yards have mushroomed openly by encroaching the government land and are becoming hubs for the stolen vehicle trade. Stolen vehicles are being cut into pieces using gas cutters and sold as scrap.

The police had arrested a four-wheeler theft gang on June 4, and it was revealed that one of the stolen vehicles had been dismantled with a gas cutter and sold to a scrap dealer.
As per reports, the police are now preparing to conduct raids on various scrap shops in the coming days.
"We have recovered a total of 11 motorcycles, including six Bullets and three Pulsars, from their (stolen bike gang) possession. They were selling those bikes for less than Rs 10,000. We are keeping a track on the scrap dealers and garages," said Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena.
