Sandeshkhali accused Sheikh Shahjahan’s aide arrested from Odisha’s Rourkela

An aide of suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan, who has been accused of 'sexual assault, land grab and orchestrating attack on Enforcement Directorate officials’ in Sandeshkhali of West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, was arrested from Rourkela in Odisha.

The aide has been identified as Amir Ali. He was arrested from the Sector-3 area of Rourkela, informed Rourkela SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra. The SP said that a Central team arrested Amir Ali on Wednesday night from Rourkela. 

Earlier on Wednesday, Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested amid massive protests against him and his associates. Women took up cudgels against him for days together accusing Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates of applying coercion for land-grab and inflicting sexual assault on young girls. 
Over the issue, the Sandeshkhali area was rocked and roiled by protests for over a month.

The TMC leader had gone into hiding soon after a violent brush with Enforcement Directorate officials on January 5. After his arrest, police have taken Sheikh Shahjahan on 10-day custody.
