The Sambalpur Police arrested 32 miscreants on Friday in connection with the violence that shook Sambalpur Town on Wednesday evening and left 10 police personnel injured.

While two of the miscreants were arrested for arson in Budharaja area, three others were arrested in connection with a stabbing at Maya Bagicha area that evening.

The police have 25 more people under their scanner based on the video footage available with them. They will be nabbed soon, informed police sources.

“We have arrested two for arson, and three for stabbing. A total of 32 persons have been arrested so far for violence,” said Sambalpur SP, B Gangadhar.

“42 platoons of police force have been deployed in the city which will be led by 26 DSPs, 43 Inspectors, and 70 Sub-Inspectors. Apart from that 20 patrolling parties are deployed at several parts of the city to keep an eye on the miscreants,” the SP said.

The police have deployed five drone cameras to keep a tab on the movement of suspects. The entire path on which the procession will move has been put under CCTV surveillance.

As per reports, a huge procession will be carried out from Brukspal Hanuman temple in the evening. After ‘Maha Alati’ and other rituals at the District College Square, the grand procession accompanied by music and dance will pass through Laxmi Talkies Square, Bela Bazar Square to reach Shakti Square eventually. Simultaneously, other processions from different areas will also reach Shakti Square through different routes. Moreover, many other small processions will be taken out from different Hanuman temples in the afternoon and evening.

Meanwhile, a team of BJP leaders will review the law and order situation in Sambalpur today in the aftermath of violence that occurred ahead of the Hanuman Jayanti.
