Sambalpur cops seize 700 bottles of sough syrup in major crackdown, 3 persons arrested
Sambalpur police have seized 700 bottles of cough syrup following a raid in the Ainthapali police station area on Sunday. The operation led to the recovery of the large quantity of the restricted substance along with the arrest of three individuals at the scene.
According to the sources, the arrested accused are residents of the Kanteipali and Maneswar areas. At the time of the seizure, the accused were transporting the cough syrup packed in five separate bags, indicating a possible plan for illegal distribution.
Police have registered a case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The three accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is being conducted to trace the source and intended network of distribution.
Earlier in July, a major haul of illegal cough syrup worth over Rs 1 crore was seized during a coordinated operation by the Odisha Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) and the state Drugs Control Department.
The joint crackdown on July 31 targeted multiple locations across Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, leading to the confiscation of banned and unlicensed cough syrups. Several premises were searched as part of efforts to dismantle an emerging drug network in the state.
