'Rs 3 Crore' scam impersonating Samsung, IT engineer brothers dupe small investors in Odisha

Two IT engineer brothers allegedly scammed investors of over Rs 3 Crore by impersonating 'Samsung India'. One of the accused Chandan Kumar Bhuyan was arrested in Bhubaneswar as police investigate the fraudulent 'Samsung Pay India' website.

Two brothers, both working as Information Technology (IT) engineers, have been accused of orchestrating a major scam by impersonating ‘Samsung India’. On Thursday, a team of cops from Airfield Police Station arrested one of the accused brothers, Chandan Kumar Bhuyan, who belongs to Bharatpur locality in Bhubaneswar.

The duo allegedly defrauded individuals to the tune of more than Rs 3 Crore.

The brothers are said to have created a deceptive website named 'Samsung Pay India'. By proposing lucrative returns on investment opportunities, they successfully lured many to invest significant sums. The suspects allegedly accumulated over Rs 3 Crore before making themselves incommunicado.

A complaint was lodged by one of the victims at the Airfield Police Station, which set the police investigation in motion. Chandan Kumar Bhuyan has been taken into custody as the probe continues.

“Accused Chandan Bhuyan was residing in Ruchika Market locality in Bhubaneswar. He and his brother have duped one of my acquaintances of Rs 35 Lakh and my brother-in-law (sister’s husband) of Rs 73 lakh,” a complainant, SC Patra said to OTV.

“The duo had opened a fake website and was luring others on the pretext of a higher rate of interest on investment. To my knowledge, the accused brothers have taken more than Rs 3 crore from several people,” the complainant expressed.

“Initially, for around two months, they had paid the interest amount and stopped paying thereafter. I had gone to New Delhi to verify the address given on their website and came to learn that they have cheated,” complainant Patra stated.

No comments were received from the police in this regard.
