Rourkela-Kolkata direct flight service in the offing

Good news for the people of Sundargarh. The direct flight service from Rourkela to Kolkata will be launched from Rourkela airport soon with the support of the Odisha government. After the commencement of the Rourkela-Kolkata direct flight service, it will take only one and a half hours for passengers to reach Kolkata.

Henceforward, they would not be going to the Bhubaneswar airport to pick a flight to Kolkata. The timings of the Bhubaneswar-Rourkela flights will also change.

The flight service will be provided by Alliance Air thrice a week – on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday – through the viability gap funding(VGF) scheme, according to a press statement from the CMO. The state government has made VGF for 35 seats.

Notably, the VGF scheme aims to support infrastructure projects that are economically justified but fall marginally short of financial viability.

It is said that the direct flight from Rourkela to Kolkata will boost the tourism and industrial sectors in Odisha. 

Various quarters have been pressing for a direct Rourkela-Kolkata flight service. It is learned that the Rourkela-Kolkata airfare has been fixed at Rs 1,999.
