Kujang Police Station
A woman was brutally attacked in broad daylight near Patapur under Kujang police limits in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district. On Tuesday, miscreants allegedly assaulted her with a machete, targeting her hands and neck.
The victim was travelling to Patapur for some work when the miscreants intercepted her. One of the assailants has been identified as Rajesh Behera, while the identities of his two accomplices are yet to be established.
Following the assault, the woman sustained serious injuries and was found lying on the roadside in severe pain. Locals rushed to rescue her and managed to apprehend Rajesh. However, his other two accomplices fled the scene on a motorbike.
She was initially taken to Kujang hospital for first aid and later shifted to Cuttack for advanced treatment due to the severity of her injuries.
The victim’s father said, “I received news that miscreants had hacked my daughter and that she was lying near the railway tracks. I rushed to Kujang Medical and saw that she has sustained serious injuries in several parts of her body. As per locals at the scene, three individuals were already present near the site and were checking something on their phones."
"We believe this was attempted loot, as they took away several pieces of jewellery she was wearing,” he added further.
Police have launched an investigation into whether the motive was solely robbery or if other reasons were involved. The two accomplices remain at large.
No comments have been obtained from senior police officials regarding the incident.
