Retired IAS officer’s house ransacked in Odisha, gold and valuables stolen

Burglars ransacked the ancestral house of a retired IAS officer, stealing valuables including a TV, inverter, gold jewelry, and cash in Odisha's Bhadrak late last night.

Reports surfaced that the thieves broke in through a window and looted the house of a retired IAS officer, identified as Bijay Nayak, in the Haladharbindha area of Budanga village under Tihidi police limits on Sunday.

The occupants of the house were reportedly not at home during the time of break-in.

“Gold worth Rs 1.5 lakh and cash amount of at least Rs 20,000 was stolen. The thieves broke into the house after twisting open metal grills of the gate,” claimed a woman tenant of the house.

Till the last report came in, a complaint was lodged at the local police station, following which authorities dispatched a scientific team and started an investigation into the matter.

The incident has, however, raised concerns among the local community regarding safety, with many urging the police to reinforce security measures.

“Today they have looted gold and valuables from this house. Tomorrow such miscreants may target my property and someone else will fall victim on the day after. Repeated incidents of robbery are happening and the authorities need to take serious action,” said a local resident.

The concerns seem valid as Bhadrak recently witnessed a heist. On December 5, a group of masked robbers attacked a family in Napanga village of the district and injured four, including three women. Using sharp weapons, they intimidated the family members and looted cash and gold worth Rs 5-6 lakh.
