In a shocking display of disregard for law enforcement decorum, a group of young men filmed and posted social media reels from inside a police outpost in the Mayurbhanj district in Odisha.
The video, now viral, shows the youngsters casually recording inside the Hatbadra outpost under Rairangpur Rural Police Station, while police were reportedly engaged in mediating a local dispute.
The footage was allegedly captured during a police-led reconciliation effort between two groups from Satpautia village over a recent altercation. While officers were attempting to resolve the matter, some of the individuals summoned to the outpost used the opportunity to shoot and later upload the reel on social media platforms.
Police officials expressed serious concern over the incident. The in-charge officer at the outpost stated that the filming took place without their knowledge during a routine mediation session. Senior officers have been informed, and further action is likely.
The incident in Mayurbhanj is the latest in a worrying trend of risky or inappropriate social media behaviour by young people in Odisha.
Just days earlier, in Boudh district, three teenage boys were detained by railway police for performing a highly dangerous stunt on live train tracks near Dalupali. One boy was filmed lying between the rails as a train passed over him while the others captured the moment for social media.
Railway authorities condemned the act as life-threatening and unlawful. The boys, all school students, were counselled and handed over to their parents. Legal action under the Railways Act is reportedly under consideration for trespassing and endangering public safety.
