Days after an attempt was allegedly made by some miscreants to rape a minor girl in a college in Kendrapara district, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a demonstration in front of Kudanagari police station on Saturday demanding immediate arrest of the accused and justice to the family at the earliest.
The family members of the girl had lodged a complaint at Kudanagari police station immediately after the incident, which was reported to have taken place four days ago. Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the matter. Sources said, a person has also been arrested in connection to the case.
However, upset over the incident, BJP workers staged a demonstration in front of the college while a delegation of the party met the college authorities and discussed about the incident.
The BJP workers took out a rally led by party spokesperson Tejeswar Parida, shouting slogans against the Odisha government. They accused the government of having failed to protect women in the state.
Speaking to media, Parida accused the police of delaying the investigation. “Four days have passed, but what has the police done? No accused has been arrested till date, even though police have formed a special team to nab the culprits,” he alleged.
Parida warned of intensifying the agitation and shut the local bazaar over the incident if all the accused are not arrested.
