In a disturbing incident from Dhenkanal district, a Class 10 schoolgirl was allegedly attempted to be abducted and sexually assaulted. The accused fled when she screamed, and police arrested three individuals in connection with the case on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the schoolgirl was allegedly the victim of an attempted sexual assault under Sadar police limits in Dhenkanal. The minor girl student was returning home from her school when three men approached her on a bike, tried to forcibly take her along, and sexually assault her. However, the rape attempt was averted.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Sadar police station. When the girl began to scream for help, the accused panicked and fled the scene, leaving her behind.

The victim later reported the incident to local police. Based on the minor girl’s complaint, the police swiftly launched an investigation and arrested three individuals allegedly involved in the crime. The arrested persons were presented before a local court.

The incident has triggered deep concern and outrage in the locality, with locals demanding strict action and increased security for school-going children, especially girls.

“Yesterday at around 4.30 PM, my daughter was returning home from school. Three bike-borne youths came near her, and one of them alighted from the vehicle and tried to drag her (to kidnap). Two others took the bike to a distance and waited. In the meantime, my daughter screamed for help, shouting ‘Bou Help!’, ‘Bou Help!’,” the girl’s mother said.

“One of the accused is a relative of a neighbour of ours. He had threatened my daughter two years ago, when she was younger and studying in Class 8,” the woman stated.

The victim girl’s mother alleged that Sadar police are trying to suppress the case. However, no comments were received from local police in this regard.
