Ragging in Berhampur MKCG Medical College & Hospital
In a significant move, the five senior students accused of ragging their juniors in Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital have been expelled from the hostel forever.
The punishment was imposed on the five students after a thorough probe by the anti-ragging committee into the ragging allegations. This apart, the five students have also been barred from any kind of scholarships, fellowship, and other facilities provided by the prestigious medical institute.
Earlier, the five were barred from entering the medical campus for six months.
Of late, the prestigious MKCG Medical College and Hospital has been in the midst of ragging controversy. Many second-year students have accused their seniors of switching off the hostel lights and beating them up, abusing them and even forcing them to dance. The students further alleged that they were being brutally thrashed by the seniors whenever they tried to resist the torture.
Sources said, first-year students on their promotion to second year, have been lodged in hostels (1, 3, and 4). However, their shift to the new hostels has led to an increase in their alleged torture, harassment, and ragging by their seniors, forcing them to knock on the door of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and anti-ragging committee.
The allegations include serious complaints of mental and physical torture.
