Berhampur Mayor Sanghamitra Dalei has opened up about being the target of threat calls. A caller from an unknown number allegedly abused her using filthy language and threatened to ‘kill’ her. Based on her complaint, Berhampur police registered a case and launched a probe into the incident.

According to sources, the Mayor received a call from an unknown number. The caller started abusing her and giving death threats as soon as she received the call. During the police probe, the unknown number was known to belong to former BeMC (Berhampur Municipal Corporation) executive engineer Lalit Mohan Das.

According to sources, Das was recently shunned from his position for some reasons. Police suspect it to be the reason for making the threatening calls. However, no comments could be obtained from Das in this connection.

Worth mentioning, BJD’s Sanghamitra Dalei grabbed the Mayor post of BeMC seat with a huge margin by defeating her BJP rival Sabita Suar. Earlier, she held the post of Ganjam BJD Mahila wing and had won as councilor thrice and once as corporator.

In her long political career, she has held different posts in both Congress and BJD. Dalei who entered politics in 2003, had contested for councilor post from Ward 18 of Berhampur Municipality with a Congress ticket and won. However, in 2008 she fought the municipality election as an independent when Congress denied her ticket.

She later joined the BJD  in 2013.
