The Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) has taken stern note of the alleged ragging incident reported from MKCG Medical College in Berhampur.

Additional DMET, Prof Umakant Satpathy informed that the Medical College Dean has constituted a four-member committee for an investigation into the matter. Similarly, as per Supreme Court guidelines, another investigation is also being undertaken by the Police.

“Already there is an anti-ragging cell and authorities are taking steps. In this particular case, the institution authorities are investigating the matter along with the police. Whatever comes out from both the inquiries, appropriate steps will be taken,” said Satpathy.

According to Satpathy, the MKCG Medical authorities will submit a report and necessary instructions will be issued by the state government.

“Steps will certainly be taken by the institution as per the provision of the law if the allegations are proved,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that a second year MBBS student from Balasore was allegedly beaten up by two seniors on February 9, 2024. The matter came to light after the father of the victim MBBS student lodged a complaint with Baidyanathpur police after learning about the incident.

The father of the student had also brought the matter to the notice of MKCG authorities, SP, CMO and other officials through his X handle (Formerly Twitter).
