Puri minor girl set on fire: Victim’s statement recorded at Delhi AIIMS

A minor girl from Balanga, Puri, who was set on fire, recorded her statement at Delhi's AIIMS under Odisha Crime Branch supervision. Her testimony has intensified the probe, with police gathering vital clues. The police are actively pursuing leads to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case. The victim underwent a six-hour skin grafting surgery yesterday.

In a major development, the minor victim from Balanga of Puri gave her statement on Friday at Delhi’s AIIMS under the supervision of Odisha Crime Branch, probe team, and doctors of the health facility. Her statement was recorded in the presence of her family members.

Based on the victim’s testimony, police have intensified the probe. They have gathered vital clues about the incident. Authorities have confirmed that several key pieces of information were obtained during the statement recording. The police are actively pursuing leads to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case.

No comments were received from the health facility authorities in his regard. The Odisha Crime Branch team is yet to issue any official response regarding the ongoing probe.

Earlier yesterday, a two-member Crime Branch team from Odisha arrived at Delhi AIIMS for a detailed probe concerning the Balanga victim, who was previously set on fire by three unidentified bike-borne miscreants.

The minor girl underwent skin grafting surgery, with an around six-hour operation. Skin grafting surgery commenced yesterday morning at around 10.00 AM. The operation had earlier been delayed as the victim had a mild fever, a day before (on July 23).

Health condition of the minor girl had remained critical till Wednesday as she continued to be on oxygen support at the AIIMS. As per a medical bulletin released by AIIMS, doctors had performed a surgery on the severely burnt areas of her body.

In a press release, the health facility had said, “A 16-year-old female patient who sustained 75 percent burns on July 19, 2025, was airlifted from AIIMS Bhubaneswar and was received at the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, AIIMS New Delhi, on the next day.”

“On day 5, the minor girl underwent surgery for effective management of deep burns. She is currently on oxygen support and still remains in critical condition. A dedicated team of doctors is closely monitoring her progress,” the press release read.
