The Puri Jagannath Temple
Photos from inside the Puri Jagannath Temple, specifically the Kirtan Chakadaa (inner courtyard), were shared on social media by a youth causing them to go viral. The incident came to the fore last night after the pictures started circulating widely.
Based on the social media reshares, the accused has been traced back to a youth identified as Gaurav Kumar Sahu. Till the last reports, police took note of the matter and started an investigation but have not offered any additional comments.
Incidentally, this is not the first time photos from the temple’s interior have surfaced on social media. In February 2024, Jony Dutta, a digital creator from West Bengal, posted pictures of the temple interiors on his Instagram account, raising questions about the effectiveness of the security measures in place.
Despite the ban on cameras, mobile phones, and other electronic gadgets within the temple premises, high-resolution cameras were believed to be used to capture the images.
Similarly, in June 2024, a photo shared by Anil Swain on social media once again highlighted the ongoing security issues at Puri Srimandir. The photo, showing Anil standing with a friend inside the temple premises where photography is prohibited, raised significant concerns about how such incidents continue to occur despite strict security protocols.
This recurring issue has now sparked strong reactions among devotees, expressing concern and discontent over the breach of security and sanctity.
