A private hospital at Balakati on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar was charged with committing ‘fraud’ and misappropriating funds allocated under the Biju Swathya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) to several beneficiaries without providing healthcare. A middleman involved in the fraud was detained by the victims.

The detained middleman has been identified as Himansu Das, a resident of Pataranga under Korei Police limits in Jajpur. He works as the marketing manager of the said hospital.

As per reports, Himansu organised a health camp at Pataranga village a few days ago and introduced himself as a doctor. Over 30 people from the village were diagnosed with various ailments some of them said that they required surgery.

Then, all of them were admitted to the hospital. It was alleged that many of the patients were discharged from the hospital without any kind of treatment or surgery.

However, funds allocated to the patients under the BSKY had been deducted, which came to the fore later. Angry over this, the BSKY beneficiaries detained the accused.

Pataranga sarpanch, Ranjan Das said, “The BSKY beneficiaries who were admitted to the hospital for treatment informed their families that they were not given food and treatment. Their thumbprints were forcibly taken on plain paper. They also alleged that funds of varied amounts up to Rs 40,000 have been deducted from their BSKY cards.”
