Principal of Odisha Engineering College attacked inside office chamber

Principal Gangadhar Dhal of Barapada Engineering College's Diploma wing was assaulted in his office by a suspended employee and associates, sustaining serious injuries. The incident raises concerns over campus security and staff discipline.

In a shocking incident, the Principal of the Diploma wing of Barapada Engineering College in Bhadrak district, Gangadhar Dhal, was physically assaulted inside his office chamber while on duty. A suspended employee reportedly carried out the alleged attack in coordination with associates.

As per preliminary reports, the accused used sticks to beat the principal and also abused him using offensive language during the assault. The victim sustained serious injuries and was immediately admitted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, Rural Police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Statements were recorded from the injured official, and efforts are underway to identify all involved in the assault.

“I was signing some documents inside my chamber when at least 8-9 people came and attacked me. Lalitendu Nayak held me by the collar of my shirt and asked me why I was suspended. I told them they were suspended by the management. Then, they started abusing me using filthy language and pushed me to the ground. I have injured my head and am in severe pain,” alleged Gangadhar Dhal.

“They even kicked me in my chest when I was lying helpless. They have threatened to kill me. I tried to scream for help, but no one heard me as they had assembled in huge numbers. At least 8-9 were inside my chamber while others were standing outside,” he added.

The incident has sparked concern among the academic fraternity and raised questions over staff discipline and campus security at the institution.
