Pregnant woman gang raped for months in Odisha's Dhenkanal, 3 detained

In a shocking incident, a seven-month pregnant woman was allegedly gang raped for months in a deserted house under Bhapur police outpost in Dhenkanal district. The victim, whose family is economically disadvantaged, was repeatedly assaulted by six to seven youths. Upon being informed, the district administration rescued her and took her to the SAKHI centre. A DSP under SP supervision has initiated an investigation, with three suspects detained.

In an inhuman act, a pregnant woman was allegedly gang raped for months in a deserted house under Bhapur police outpost in Dhenkanal district.

As per the allegation, the victim, who is seven-month pregnant, was repeatedly raped by six-seven youths in the village for months.

While the victim's mother had died, her father is mentally retired. Her family's economic condition is very poor. Taking advantage of the situation, several anti-social youths allegedly gang raped her on several occasions. 

On being informed about the incident, the district administration rescued the victim and took her to the SAKHI centre.

Meanwhile, a DSP under the supervision of SP has launched an investigation into the sensitive matter. Dhenkanal police has detained three persons in connection with the case and further investigation into the matter is on.

"This is a very heinous crime. A DSP under the supervision of the SP is investigating the matter. After cross-verifying the statement of the victim, we have initiated the probe," said Deepak Kumar Lenka, IIC, Sadar Police Station.

Expressing concern over the matter, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida spoked to Dhenkanal SP and directed him to take stringent action against the culprits.
