After rejoining BJP, Das said he tried to work as the people’s Governor and visited all the 30 districts of the State during his stint as Odisha Governor. Apart from trying to collect information on whether the schemes were reaching the people or not, Das said that the aim of his life was to work for the welfare of the people. He also said that he tried to convey the problems of both the State and Centre to each other by remaining within the purview of the constitution.

“Governor is not a ‘Lath Saheb’. I tried to work as people’s Governor and visited all the 30 districts of the state during my stint as Odisha Governor. Apart from trying to collect information on whether the schemes were reaching the people or not, I also worked for the welfare of the people,” said Raghubar.

However, Raghubar’s statement triggered a political slugfest in Odisha with Opposition BJD and ruling BJP rapping each other.

As per BJD, Raghubar was an agent of BJP and his statement is an insult to a constitutional post like Governor.

“Raghubar Das’s statement is unfortunate. It’s an insult to a constitutional post like Governor. The governor should not work as an agent of any particular political party. His statement is proving that he was an agent of a particular political party,” said BJD leader Sarada Jena.

However, countering the allegation by the Opposition, the BJP said that Raghubar was reaching common people more than BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik and he was solving the problems on the spot.

“As Raghubar was reaching the people and solving their problems, it bothered BJD. The Governor has also some responsibilities. Raghubar fulfilled his responsibilities well which could not be carried out by the former Chief Minister. Hence, BJD is becoming reactive,” said BJP leader Saroj Padhi.
